Final Fantasy 16 is the latest instalment in the franchise and the first of the series to launch on the PS5.
This was revealed during today’s PS5 Showcase, which also confirmed it would be a console exclusive.
This means that Final Fantasy 16 won’t be coming to the Xbox Series X but will be available to play on PC at some point in the future.
It’s unclear at this point if Final Fantasy 16 will be a timed exclusive, meaning it can be released on the Xbox Series X sometime after its PS5 launch.
More news regarding the game’s release date on PS5 is expected in the coming months.
Final Fantasy 16 has been given its first cinematic trailer, confirming a medieval setting, as well as the return of summons to the game franchise.
Here’s more from the development team behind FF16, with Final Fantasy XVI Producer, Naoki Yoshida confirming:
“The exclusive footage, comprised of both battles and cutscenes running in real-time, represents but a fraction of what our team has accomplished since the start of development on this, an all-new Final Fantasy game.
“In that span, the team’s size has grown from a handful of core members to a full-fledged unit that continues to polish and build upon what they have created so far, all to provide players an experience unmatched in terms of story and gameplay.
“Our next big information reveal is scheduled for 2021, so in the meantime, I expect everyone to have fun speculating, as we have a lot in store—not only for Final Fantasy XVI, but for Final Fantasy XIV, too. Needless to say, I’ll be working hard on both.”
