A new PS5 game set in the Harry Potter universe has been announced for 2021.
Unveiled with some slick new gameplay footage during the PlayStation 5 Showcase event, Hogwarts Legacy will launch at some point next year.
Unlike the majority of Harry Potter games launched during the peak of its popularity, Hogwarts Legacy actually looks pretty decent.
The game is being developed by Just Cause studio Avalanche, and will be published by Warner and Portkey Games.
The new release is described as an open-world, single-player, action role-playing game set in the 1800s wizarding world.
“Players will experience life as a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry like never before, as they live the unwritten and embark on a dangerous journey to uncover a hidden truth of the wizarding world,” reads the official description.
The game is also said to be filled “immersive magic”, a companion system, skill tree and some sort of choice-based mission structure.
“Hogwarts Legacy is filled with immersive magic, putting players at the center of their adventure to become the witch or wizard they choose to be.
“They will grow their character’s abilities as they master powerful spells, hone combat skills and select companions to help them face off against deadly enemies. Players will also encounter missions and scenarios that will pose difficult choices and determine what they stand for.”
In addition to PS5, Hogwarts Legacy is coming to PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and PC.
The news was announced during the PlayStation 5 Showcase event, which was fit to burst with new gameplay trailers and news.
“Before PlayStation 5 launches this holiday, we wanted to give you one more look at some of the great games coming to PS5 at launch (and beyond!),” reads a Sony post.
“Our next digital showcase will weigh in at around 40 minutes, and feature updates on the latest titles from Worldwide Studios and our world-class development partners.
“Tune in live on Twitch or YouTube this Wednesday, September 16 at 1pm PDT / 9pm BST / 10pm CEST to see what’s next for PS5.”
The event also shed new light on Spider-Man Miles Morales, as well as Final Fantasy 16 and Resident Evil 8: Village.
