Conor McGregor KNOCKED OUT by Dustin Poirier at UFC 257

Conor McGregor was stunned by Dustin Poirier at UFC 257 as Notorious was knocked out in shocking fashion. McGregor was taken down by his opponent midway through the second round.

Poirier landed a flurry of punches in the second round which floored McGregor.

The referee stepped in to stop the fight as the crowd in attendance went wild at what they witnessed.

It was redemption for Poirier who had lost to McGregor in the first meeting between the two back in 2014.

The KO was the first in McGregor’s storied career and came after the Irishman had been on top in the first round.

Controlling the centre of the octagon, McGregor landed some hard shots with his right hand but he couldn’t find the blow with his left that would have finished the fight, and instead Poirier scored with a hard right to get his back off the fence before landing a flurry of blows to win.

“You’re in here and you put in the time, I will dust it off and come back and that’s what I will do.

“Of course, I need activity guys come on. You don’t get away with being inactive in this business and that’s the way it is.

“I am gutted, I put so much work in. Well done Dustin.

“I am proud, I would have liked to have represented my team a bit better but we will get together, I’m going to go home to my kids and just chill and regroup.”

After the win Poirier was delighted to beat McGregor and claimed he is now the champion.

He said: “I’m happy man but I’m not surprised I put in the work. First off I gotta say Conor has taken this result very professionally. 1 and 1, maybe we have to do it again.

“I’m happy with the place where I’m at. The win is great, but I’m fighting for bigger things back home with my good fight foundation. I love my wife, I love my city and I love my foundation.

“The goal was to be technical and pick my shots. to not brawl at all. I can box very technically but I have a tendency of going crazy and getting in trouble.

“Max Holloway thinks he is the best boxer but I have beat the kid twice. Nothing against the kid.

“We’ll see, I felt like this was a title fight. I am the champion.”
