How Yankees rounded out their 40-man roster

The Yankees rounded out their 40-man roster Friday by adding three right-handed pitchers — Roansy Contreras, Yoendrys Gomez and Alexander Vizcaíno — as well as infielder Oswald Peraza. None of the quartet competed in 2020 because of the novel coronavirus shutting down the minor leagues.

All four players joined the Yankees as international free agents in 2016.

Baseball America ranks Peraza, 20, as the No. 6 prospect in the Yankees’ organization; Vizcaino, 23, eighth and Gomez, 21, ninth. Vizcaino, a non-roster invitee to the Yankees’ first spring training this past season, has climbed the highest up the organizational ladder, pitching for Class A Tampa in 2019. Friday marked the deadline for clubs to protect eligible players from being selected by another team in the Rule 5 draft on Dec. 10.
