Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner

The Trump family will today leave the White House for the last time. President-elect Joe Biden will be handed power in what is usually a grand political affair, the inauguration now scaled-back considerably because of the coronavirus pandemic. In a snub to tradition, Mr Trump announced early on that he would not be in attendance.

He will instead fly to Mar-a-Lago, his Florida residence, in the morning.

President Trump’s final days have been marred by controversy: Protestors storming the Capitol Building, social media bans and impeachment.

Now, the attention has been placed on his daughter Ivanka Trump, 39, and her husband, Jared Kushner, 40.

Investigative reports have surfaced that suggest Secret Service staff who stood guard outside the pair’s home, in the elite Washington Kalorama neighbourhood, were not allowed to use any of their “half-dozen” toilets.

After resorting to a porta-potty, as well as bathrooms at the nearby home of former President Barack Obama, and Vice President Mike Pence, the agents were given their own toilet.

The bombshell Washington Post report claims this toilet came at a high cost to American taxpayers – some $3,000 a month (£2,200), more than $100,000 (£73,000) to date.

This money was used, according to The Post, to rent, “a basement studio, with a bathroom, from a neighbour of the Kushner family”.

A White House spokesperson denied that Ivanka and Jared restricted agents from using their home.

One law enforcement officer familiar with the situation told the paper: “It’s the first time I ever heard of a Secret Service detail having to go to these extremes to find a bathroom.”

However, as the publication noted: The agents’ bizarre odyssey played out in full view of a wealthy enclave in Northwest Washington, where many deplore Trump’s presidency and have expressed frustration over what they view as the Kushner family’s disregard for their neighbours.”

These include Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon and owner of The Post.

Meanwhile, reports suggest Ivanka is now hoping to gain some footing in the political world.

This is alongside claims that her brother and eldest Trump child, 43-year-old Don Trump Jr, also has political ambitions.

Ivanka served as her father’s senior advisor.

The White House website describes her role in government as: “She focuses on the education and economic empowerment of women and their families as well as job creation and economic growth through workforce development, skills training and entrepreneurship.”

Forbes reports that Ivanka is scouting out a potential place in the Senate for the state of Florida.

Both Ivanka and Jared will leave their exclusive Washington neighbourhood for Florida, a move in line with the rest of the family.

The couple have recently bought a $30million (£22million) plot of land on an island nicknamed the Billionaire’s Bunker.
